Our Top Sites for Design Inspiration

It's always fun to see the ways in which designers utilize scrolling, serve as political activists, or advertise goods in inspiring ways on their websites.

Every week at Fueled, our London-based lead designer Rob Palmer shares a handful of inspirational websites with our teams in New York and Chicago. This weekly email acts like a virtual water cooler, encouraging us to congregate across time zones and discuss what brands and blogs are doing to push new trends in webdesign.

It's always fun to see the ways in which designers utilize scrolling. This site, for the American car company GMC, is an enjoyable, interactive experience. The site features interesting parallax design that, paired with some sexy scrolling, expertly shows off the company's new Sierra truck. Although the site can be a bit buggy and loading time could be improved, it's a pretty nice ride.

Names Not Numbers

Every year, 300,000 women die from pregnancy related complications or unsafe abortions. Names Not Numbers was created to draw attention to this horrific statistic. Launched on International Women's Day, the site features a "Machine of Death" that prints a name of a woman who has died in childbirth or during an abortion. In order to save the women from becoming another statistic, users have one minute to press a button and claim a name card before it is forgotten. Once users receive their card, the website prompts them to sign and send it to a local or international politician.

Engage

When you first land on Engage's site, you'll think you've reached the homepage of a think tank or a political campaign. This isn't too far from the truth. Engage is a Washington DC based "digital agency with a purpose." We admire the presentation, flow, and organization of the site and their featured work is a solid display of branding and strategy.

Spring heralds the return of America's favorite pastime and Dick's Sporting Goods, a national chain, has created this site in honor of baseball season. The site features full screen video that highlights different playing positions and the specific equipment needed for each role. For example, click on the batter's hands to see what gloves he's wearing. If you like what you see, there is a link available to buy the product online through Dick's. Plug in your headphones for an enhanced experience.

HLK Agency

There's a little bit of a disconnect between the landing page and the rest of this agency's site, but once you get there you'll be happy you stopped by. The firm, based in Saint Louis and Denver, has done some interesting projects that are worth exploring, and we particularly love the website's menu. It's a bright, clean example of what an agency site should be.
