Valentine’s Day is coming: whether you love or dread it, the time has come to start making your plans! Planning for the day can often be daunting because you have to find something to do that is unique or, at the very least, a little bit special.  So, if you are looking for something more offbeat and fun than a fancy $200 dinner and roses (or a night at home watching Star Trek: Wrath of Khan), rejoice because there are definitely some great events out there for you that you should look into before Tuesday rolls around.

New York

If you are a New Yorker into technology, join everyone in New York’s tech world for Tech Tuesday!  Falling on Valentine’s Day this year, Tech Tuesday is held at the Tribeca Grand and hosted by GrandLife, Websdays, and Internet Week.  Fueled's own Rameet Chawla and Ryan Matzner will be pumping up the music while the venues’ bar dishes out drinks until 11 pm.  Plus, there's an open bar from 7 to 8 pm. The event is a great opportunity to meet other members of New York’s burgeoning technology community, do some networking, and have a ton of fun in the process.

Boston

For those of you from Boston, substitute with Absolut’s ‘Love for the Geeks Who Drink’ event at Sweet Caroline’s at 7 pm.  Go there to have fun, try out Absolut Vodka’s flirty drinks, answer fun geek trivia, and benefit a good cause: half of your $5 entry fee will go to the American Heart Association and the winning trivia team will get the other half in a cash payout.

San Francisco

If you are from San Francisco, make sure to check out Social Media Week 2012.  There are two events on Valentine’s Day: a 2 pm discussion on the power of listening hosted by Cisco and a 4 pm informational panel on the future of social business.  They will give you an opportunity to meet some cool people and learn a bit before making some great evening plans!  Plus, if you don’t have plans for the evening, look into the Marines Memorial Theater’s Valentines Comedy: How We First Met.  It’s a hilarious improv comedy show for those who like a good laugh on the nation’s day of love.
That’s just a few choices that might enhance your Valentine’s Day.  Of course, whatever you do, make sure it is a ton of fun.
