Rite Aid came to Fueled to revamp their existing app, with the goal of achieving a more modern user experience with elements of personalization and intelligence.
Building a Future-Proof iOS Codebase
Upon consultation, we learned that Rite Aid’s app had been built on an outdated codebase that would not run on iOS 10 and beyond. Our developers were responsible for updating said codebase to Swift 3, while our designers focused on creating a user-friendly interface that would improve each online interaction between the company and their customers.
The Vision
We streamlined the Rite Aid experience by placing the necessary functions, like refill notifications, medication history, and a customizable pharmacy tab on one screen.
Swift 3
The development team at Fueled used Swift 3 to structure a new code. We then delivered a flexible code base that was adaptable to future iOS and Android OS updates.
App Design
For their initial app, Rite Aid collected an incredible amount of marketing resources and user-facing websites, but because different designers worked on the product, their brand colors inevitably met inconsistencies. Fueled then put forward a clean and consistent color system to utilize on all areas.

Creating a Scalable Product
We built a code base from scratch, making it modern and scalable. Our redesigned app was built to complement the latest iPhone, while also being adaptable to future devices and operating systems.
Area of Focus
We wanted to create an app that would help users establish a trust relationship with their pharmacy, and believed that strong design would ensure the desired customer loyalty.
An overly complicated interface wasn't exactly ideal, so we placed the pharmacy, weekly ads, and home store information all on one friendly home screen.
User Privacy
User privacy is paramount. In order for the app to be HIPAA compliant, we updated security standards to two-step authentication and worked with many existing APIs so no personal data would be stored in the app client.
Circulars
A part of Rite Aid’s customer base has a habitual tendency to check weekly circulars for offers. We wanted to make that easier by allowing them to see the weekly catalogue in-app, and load the savings directly to their reward cards for their next visit.
Easy Pickups
The pharmacy is what keeps users returning to their local Rite Aid store every week— so we put it on the home screen, allowing users to directly order scripts and refills.
This encouraged quicker pick-ups and effectively revolutionized health management on the app.
Pharmacy Refills & Reward Features
Rite Aid’s wellness+ tool made it easy for users to modify prescriptions online without losing the value of the pharmacist-patient touchpoint. Our modern redesign highlighted the pharmacy with refill reminders, barcode-scanning, and other rewards programs.
