See Foodspotting Run

While a plethora of apps exist that can help you find a restaurant or a recipe, it’s decidedly more difficult to locate a specific type of food or dish when you’re out and about.  Foodspotting, a New York City based startup hopes to take some of the work out of satisfying your refined tastes.  Available for the iPhone, Foodspotting works by encouraging users to upload their food finds to their database.  Other users can then comment on your food choice, mark it as something they loved themselves, something they’d like to try, or add it to a guide for a specific city.  After clicking on a specific food, users can also choose to see other items that are similar to it, or other menu options from the same location, making it a great discovery tool.  Foodspotting’s colorful interface and easy navigability make it a breeze to use, and its emphasis on sharing creates an instant sense of community.  It also offers users a much more centralized way to take advantage of the surging popularity of food photography on social networks.  Furthermore, gamification elements like badges and scavenger hunts give users a chance at recognition and an incentive to keep logging in.

Conclusion

Founded by Alexa Andrzejewski, Ted Grubb, and Soraya Darabi, Foodspotting is a modern day twist on hunting and gathering.  And as well all know, the chase is half the fun.
