For the many who are passionate about exercising their creativity and sharing it with others, there is Pinterest. But for those who have even more interest in profiting from their creations, there is now Pin2Sell, the creation of the Chicago-based digital design and marketing agency CliqueStudios. Pin2Sell simply requires you post a photo of your item and click Pin2Sell. When an admiring fan clicks on your pinned item, they are automatically redirected to a PayPal checkout page. A quick and easy process from start to finish, with no fee.
What Pin2Sell enables is the breaking down of obstacles that have for so long tended to hamper the ability of crafty, talented people to bring their goods to market. And what better way is there to get the ball rolling than by taking full advantage of the social commerce craze? According to a study published by SocialMediadd, $3.1 billion will be spent on social media marketing in 2014 and social commerce will be a $30 billion market by 2015.
Pinterest has an estimated user base of over 10 million and is still growing strong. There are of course some natural apprehensions revolving around the Pin2Sell method. For one, Pin2Sell assumes no responsibility for misuse — a factor those excited enough about the notion of easily selling items will most take their chances with. It will certainly be interesting to see how well Pin2Sell manages to do — my prediction is racing into the direction of positivity since, after all, it is simply adding the potential for profit onto the other three things we naturally enjoy the most about social commerce: communicating through aesthetics and opinions, building online presence, and therapeutically hunting for goods.
