The new app Angi comes as HomeAdvisor and Angie’s list have come together to create the go-to source for common home tasks. Yardwork, whole-home makeover, or finding a plumber, all of it can be found in Angi with user-generated reviews and up-front pricing.
Angi has a clean, modern look with stark white backgrounds, very shallow drop shadows to accentuate buttons, and pops of colors to bring attention to important info such as star ratings, categories, or CTA buttons. Many projects have predetermined pricing that you can accept and schedule or you can request a quote from verified and vetted pros.
If you’ve been following my posts for a while, you probably know I’m a sucker for some nice custom iconography. Angi has that in spades. There aren’t stock iOS icons for household chores like cleansers or painting so Angi has come up with its own imagery that not only meets its needs for the different tasks its pros provide, but matches the apps overall aesthetic with a flat, modernist design and its iconic shade of red. Some icons use light shadows, similar to Google’s Material design framework but parred back to look natural on iOS as well.
When starting a project, the Angi app guides you through the process. You choose the project type and then it asks a few questions based on your project. If doing a kitchen remodel, it will ask if you need appliances installed, cabinets placed, or the floor plan changed. For painting, it may ask if interior or exterior, roughly how much area, how many stories is your home, what material, etc. All before it allows you to request quotes from up to four providers.
More often than not, I try to do stuff myself but that isn’t always possible. Whether I’m just swamped with work or it’s outside of my skillset, sometimes a pro is needed. Angi makes this easy and it does so with a great app. I feel like I get a lot of info and transparency from the process and the partnered pros also get the info they need from me to create a proper quote.
But enough about other people's apps.
