After last Christmas, rumors about smartphones scheduled to launch in 2013 have been leaking out from under cover. Word is some big-name mobile phone companies including Apple, Samsung, and LG are going to introduce more new models to the world of smartphones.

And yet, these are just the tip of the iceberg. That’s why we felt inspired to do a roundup on the top rumors of the next-generation mobile devices.

iPhone 5S

Since the iPhone 5 is already a few months old, it’s time for the rumors that the next-generation iPhone is one the way. Dubbed iPhone 5S, the device is rumored to carry the same design as the iPhone 5, but with improved battery power, a faster processor, and an upgraded rear camera. However, Tim Cook and his fellows remained tight-lipped on the details of the upcoming smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S4

Despite that Samsung Galaxy S4 is one of the most heavily rumored smartphones of 2013, it seems like we won’t be able to see it at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. The Galaxy S4 is rumored to have a 5-inch 1080p HD display, a quad-core processor, a 13-megapixel camera, and a larger 2,600mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

As some retailers have been offering Samsung Galaxy Note 2 at half price, many have guessed that the company will soon release its successor –– Samsung Galaxy Note 3. According to an International Business Times report, the new model will have a 6.3-inch display and become the new biggest smartphone in the market. It will also have the Exynos 5 Octa CPU which would deliver better performance and longer battery life.

Motorola X-Phone

A recent Motorola’s job listing on LinkedIn outed the company’s secret about its X-Phone.  As the job ad says, the company is looking for someone to manage this “Next Generation Smartphone Platform,” it seems that we won’t have to wait long till its release. Rumors suggest that the device will be offered on all carriers, a $299 price tag on Verizon, and an unlocked pricing through the Google Play Store with an additional $15 monthly charge.

LG Optimus GK

Bummer. It seems LG has no intention to unveil its Optimus G2 at this year’s Mobile World Congress. However, the good news is we’ll probably get to see a new LG Tabphone, a full HD Optimus GK with a touchscreen measuring in at 5.5 inches. According to Android Authority, the GK model will feature full HD 1080p display alongside quad-core processing power.

Nokia Lumia Catwalk

Guess what? Although the Nokia Lumia 920 just came out a couple months ago, there is already talk of a successor that employs a thinner and lighter design. The new device, dubbed the Nokia Catwalk, is likely to have an aluminum shell which will make it lighter than the current Lumia 920. Performance and battery life will also be “significantly upgraded” to keep up with Android models.

Nokia Laser

Verizon is gearing up to launch a flagship Nokia Windows Phone with specifications similar to the Nokia’s current Lumia 920. This high-end Nokia Lumia phone, codenamed Nokia Laser, will “be a variant” of the 920. And yet, Nokia has not provided any further details on features of this new device.

Nokia EOS PureView

Another Nokia smartphone that’s rumored to come out later this year is Nokia EOS PureView, a Windows 8 device that’s said to have a sensor similar to the Nokia 808 PureView. Will it become the next Nokia’s camera phone that lives up to the hype? We don’t know yet. Sources said the EOS will feature an aluminum body and squared edges. AT&T is rumored to be the carrier.

HTC G2 & HTC M4

There are whispers going around that the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer is planning to launch two more new phones after HTC M7. These two siblings of M7 will be known as HTC G2 and HTC M4. The former will be a low-end device that’s targeting at first-time smartphone users while the latter will be a fairly powerful model with a 4.3-inch screen.

Well, as you can probably tell from this roundup, some of these devices are actually very close to launch while others are still far off into the distance. Although companies have been promising that their new high-profile devices are coming in the “near future,”  nothing has been confirmed so far. But yeah, let’s hope they will come out “at some point this year.”
