There’s a lot of language learning apps out there and they all claim to have the best curriculum. However, it’s hard to transition lessons from a formal curriculum into real-world conversations. HelloTalk teaches users a language by setting up real-world conversations between a learner and a native speaker.

Do you speak fluent French and want to learn Spanish? Great! HelloTalk will connect you with a fluent Spanish speaker who wants to learn French. What results is a symbiotic relationship in which you’re both the learner and the teacher.

The primary form of communication in the conversation is text. You and your new friend will text each other in a normal real-world conversation to try and get to know the other person. However, in the above example, the French speaker will text in Spanish and the Spanish speaker will text in French. The recipient of each text then makes edits to the sender’s text so that the sender learns from their mistakes. Users also have the ability to call each other from within HelloTalk.

HelloTalk has all the functionality of a social platform. The “Talks” section holds your private conversations, however, there’s also a “Moments” section where any user can post publicly. Think of Twitter. Each user also has a bio where they provide basic information about themselves—name, nationality, profile picture, short bio, language trying to learn, and fluent language.

If you do enjoy a structured self-learning curriculum, HelloTalk has some of that too. The app has a “Learn” section that provides lessons around listening comprehension, vocabulary, reading, and more.

HelloTalk supports over 150 languages and has 18 million users that are ready to chat! The app has 4.7 stars in the Apple Store and 4.4 starts in the Google Play stores. In 2017, it was rewarded the Best for Social Apps.

Use HelloTalk to practice a language through real-life conversations. And you might just make a friend along the way!

But enough about other people's apps.

LET'S TALK ABOUT YOURS
