You hear that? Can you feeeeeeel it? That is the rhythmic bass track of the music from your next get-together. Be it a game night or a surprise party for your significant other, music is the single ingredient that can decide if you threw a snoozer or a rage. Do you want to deal with that amount of pressure — yeah, I didn’t think so. Rest easy because Next is your magical DJ to your rescue.
Central to Next is the Magic DJ feature that can create several different mixes for you. The “All Songs” mix is front and center after installing Next which gives you a personalized mixes with your top hits but also some less-played tracks that it thinks you may have interest in hearing.
Aside from this “All Songs” mix there are many others based on genre and artist. This is all under the Magic DJ tab and each of the mixes has a great little custom icon atop. Regardless of where you are in the app, a set of floating controls remains visible so while you keep looking at your music, you can always control what’s playing.
Next’s Magic DJ does a great job at creating those mixes but there are several playlist options too. Maybe Forgotten Songs — ones you listened to a bunch but haven’t listened to recently, Most Played of [insert genre] — songs from any specific genre you have a lot of and listen to the most, or Most Played of [insert specific artist]. This gives you a lot of music to explore.
The thing I love about Next is how useful it can be. It is a full-featured music playback app that even has support for Siri. It can mix your songs and run the speakers for your next party. And it can help you rediscover old favorites. This all comes back to you have good taste in music to start, but assuming you’ve amassed a collection of songs you enjoyed, Next can take it from there. And it does so with a slick app and some AI smarts.
But enough about other people's apps.
