For the longest time, I used MyFitnessPal for tracking everything. Food, weight, and workouts. I wanted a bit more help with the whole fitness part so I downloaded a great app called Fitness Buddy. After trying a couple others though, I landed on SmartGym and haven’t looked back. It was recently upgraded with tons of new features, including for its powerful watchOS app.

SmartGym has an outstanding look with black and dark grey background colors with vibrant neon green, blue, and red accent colors for buttons and text. It’s reminiscent of the Nike Volt color. When you choose a workout to do, there are graphical representations of the workouts with the isolated muscle groups highlighted in the neon green color. Each workout has instructions, verbose tracking stats for reps and weight, and other information.

Based on your progress, SmartGym will recommend more workouts for you or you can browse the selections based on time, muscle group, and more. If on Apple Watch, you can track your reps, check your monthly summary, or start routines.

Dev Matt Abras talked through the new update, noting the app got 74 new workout types complete with animations and graphics. The Routine Progress view is new that gives you a granular look at a specific routine over a user-chosen period of time. The watchOS app got a new timer and history controls and the history interface was overhauled completely.

As much as it’s beneficial to hear me espousing the benefits and design of SmartGym, it’s probably even better to see Apple laud the app. It’s been recognized by Apple multiples including Editor’s Choice, App of the Day, Best iOS 16 Apps, Best watchOS 9 Apps, and Everyone’s Favorites. If that isn’t enough to get you to consider SmartGym, I’m not sure what will!

But enough about other people's apps.
