Simple premise, fantastic app. Weather Strip is unlike almost any other weather app because it delivers hourly forecast for up to a week in advance. Heading to the trail in Zion this weekend around 2PM? Weather Strip will tell you whether to except rain or perhaps sweltering heat with impressive accuracy. All while respecting your privacy and data.

The app presents a horizontally scrolling weather forecast for any location you choose. It labels several different areas on the timeline including fire warnings or other weather advisories. You can see wind, “feels like” temperature, precipitation, and more.

Many weather apps abuse you, tracking your location, displaying ads, and selling your data to third-party data brokers. That’s how they earn an income. But Weather Strip is incredibly upfront about its promise to never do this. Privacy FTW. The app is devoid of ads, data collection, and third-party analytics. Entirely private and safe.

The app’s policy on cellular data is also impressive. It has an optional background app refresh option that uses AI to learn your habits. That way it doesn’t consume copious amounts of data when unnecessary. Another consumer-friendly touch that doesn’t always get accounted for by lesser-developers.

Data visualization Robin Stewart designed this app with the intent of getting more people outside. While it isn’t going to pick your kids up off the couch, it does provide unmitigated clarity into what the weather is will be exactly when you need to know. It’s a unique idea with an excellent implementation, and as a new app, it will likely get better and better with each update.

But enough about other people's apps.
