What does Instagram offer that other services' do not? You can tag and comment on photos on Facebook. You can share photo's on Flickr and tons of other applications. So the question posed is, Why is Instagram such a hit?

Some of the theories that we’ve heard thrown around are Instagram’s simplicity, its speed, its feedback loop, its elegant use of location, and the kitschy, throwback use of filters as a self expression tool...Instagram’s magic seems to lie a bit deeper. In talking to friends of mine who are Instagram addicts, one trait seems to be coming up over and over again. Most of them did not consider themselves serious photographers pre Instagram (by serious photographers, I mean people that would deliberately go out of the way to capture a special shot).

The nice thing about Instagram is that you do not need to be a photographer, but it has an artistic feel to it. It has created a niche community that can not be recreated through other services like Facebook and Flickr. There is no other place to upload pictures of a can on dim lighted coffee table, rocks, or even your shoes. Most of all Instagram enables you to become a photographer.
