I’m absolutely terrible at keeping track of when new games are coming. I can blame the fact I just had a child a few months back and that has drastically cut back on my play time but the reality is I’m just bad at it and always have. I love games, but I don’t read the news frequently enough to keep up. Game Widgets solves this by allowing you to quickly track any new titles you’re interested in.

This is such a simple app but one I’ve enjoyed using. Launch the app, search for a title, and add it to your tracked list. That’s it! Then Game Widgets does the rest to populate those games in one of three different widget styles.

One widget will give you a release countdown for a single game. It is a medium-sized widget and shows the game cover on one side and a countdown until it releases on the other. The background of the widget is partially opaque and is tinted to match the game’s artwork.

Then there is a calendar widget. It’s a large widget that shows the next month’s calendar. Any games coming out will have their artwork placed over the date. Today’s date is also noted so you can see where it sits compared to the game’s launch date.

Lastly, there is the up next widget. It looks through your list of games and finds the one coming next. The up next title is prioritized with full-size cover art and a countdown but you also have a list of the next several titles and their respective launch dates. This is my favorite widget and the one that provides the most relevant information.

I think apps like this can be the most useful. A simple premise that is well-executed and provides functionality for its target audience. The widgets are well-designed and it is easy to find games you’re interested in. Heck, it also helps you find new games that it thinks you’ll like.

But enough about other people's apps.
