With the introduction of widgets on the Home Screen, Apple has unlocked a new level of customization. Widgets put the information you need right on your Home Screen, only a glance away. It reduces interactions with your phone as you’re able to glean this information without opening each app. While many apps offer widgets, Widgetsmith’s collection can be customized and designed to match your wallpaper.
Widgetsmith was one of the first apps to offer customizable widgets. Since then, many have flooded the App Store with bare-bones features and annoying in-app purchase or subscriptions that are sky-high. It continues to be a highly-polished app that I widely recommend.
This app ties into many core iOS features, and not just widgets themselves. For example, for Apple Watch users, it is able to tie into your Activity Rings. Your exercise, stand, and Move rings can show on your Home Screen skinned to any color you like. Similarly, it can tie into the Health app to show other metrics as well. With your location, it can automatically convert time zones or show you the weather in your location.
There are plenty of different widgets that Widgetsmith offers with new ones coming regularly. Widgets include ones for weather, astronomy, calendar, timezones, photos, activity rings, and tide levels. Each of those widgets also comes in various sizes and styles.
In a recent update, Widgetsmith also started releasing new themes. Each few months, Widgetsmith will be updated with new themes to match the season. These themes will skin all of your widgets for you quickly and easily.
One of my favorite features is that the widgets can dynamically change. A good example is that your primary Home Screen widget could show you the weather in the morning hours but swap with your calendar once the work day begins. As you get home for the evening, it could change to your activity rings. This is a unique approach to mimic Apple’s Smart Stack but customized in this third-party app.
I love widgets and I’m always looking for unique takes on them or fresh apps to utilize them. Widgetsmith has been on my phone for more than a year and I still enjoy what it provides. Whether or not you use widgets at the moment, Widgetsmith make make sure you do.
But enough about other people's apps.
