A handful of inspirational websites with Fueled teams in New York and Chicago

Every week at Fueled, our London-based lead designer Rob Palmer shares a handful of inspirational websites with our teams in New York and Chicago. This weekly email acts like a virtual water cooler, encouraging us to congregate across time zones and discuss what brands and blogs are doing to push new trends in web design.

BUILD IN AMSTERDAM

This Amsterdam-based digital design and development studio aims to bridge the gap between design and technology. Designed from mobile up, we love how their website combines a minimal responsive design with surprising scrolling navigations. With a bare minimal amount of text, it’s the slideshow of beautiful photography content that does the talking. It definitely make us want to go dutch.

BUILD A BURGER

You’ve heard of Build a Bear— well now there’s Build a Burger. McDonalds dissects the iconic burger in the most immersive way possible with this HTML5-driven burger configurator. The crowdsourcing campaign invites the public to make ‘burger history’ and win the chance to see their ultimate creation on the menu. It’s vibrant, superbly crafted and literally mouth-watering.

NIGEL EVAN DENNIS

Scrolling through this designer’s portfolio site, you almost don’t notice the background subtly changing pigments that complement the graphic work on display. Dennis’ vibrant work is framed within minimal text and lines that mimic a fixed logo up top. We love how the vertical menus unconventionally run down both sides of the page, creating a canvas that doesn’t distract from the artist’s work.

BE VISIONAIRE

We’re not sure which is more whimsical— the idea behind Visionaire or the site itself. The goal setting app and website urges you to embrace your inner artist/singer/traveller/athlete and take control of your life, by drawing from the experience of people who have already achieved your dreams. The site’s combination of clean parallax scroll and contemporary illustration should be enough to inspire anyone’s inner designer.

WE KEEP THE OTHER BAD MEN FROM THE DOOR

Can’t get enough of True Detective? As designer Nigel Evan Dennis states on this graphic tribute site, watching the show feels like reading a novel: “It is dark. It is deep, not in a trite way. But it carries you to some true depth. It feels like a living, breathing organism.” We Keep The Other Bad Men From The Door lets us re-live the story and visualise the characters through graphic illustration (watch out for the infographic spoiler alert key at the bottom). There’s even an aerial map of the epic 6-minute single shot sequence at the end of episode 4 through the Hoston Projects.
